Walking Club Essentials Toolkit
Program Description: The six-week WalkItUp! campaign kicked off this past Spring 2008. The campaign was highly visible with media messages, development of walking clubs, physical activity assessment, events, presentations and educational opportunities while identifying and addressing barriers to physical activity.
The WalkItUp! program is still active to promote the Surgeon Generals recommendation to walk thirty minutes a day, most days of the week. Check out our upcoming events calender for WalkItUp! events in your area!
Goal: Create a positive environment for people in which physical activity is accessible, safe, affordable, fun and supported.
Our Partnership: The Cabell-Huntington Health Department and the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department worked simultaneously to facilitate the project in both counties. The partnership brought citizens and leaders together to create networks for sustained local involvement and impact throughout the project.
Target Population: WalkItUp! attempts to reach adults ages, 35-64 in Cabell and Kanawha Counties and the 1.6 million individuals in the Huntington/Charleston media market.
